Josh Bartok, Roshi, began practicing Zen practice with John Daido Loori, at Zen Mountain Monastery in the early 1990s while a student at nearby Vassar College, and later lived there for 18 months. James Ishmael Ford, Roshi, was ordained a Soto Zen priest in 1969. He received dharma transmission from Jiyu Kennett, Roshi, in 1971. For many years he studied with John Tarrant, Roshi, and received Inka Shomei from him in 2005.
