Two Day YMJJ Retreat with Kwan Haeng Sunim JDPS

June 22 - June 23

Join Kwan Haeng Sunim JDPS for a two-day in-person Yong Maeng Jong Jin (YMJJ) retreat at the Providence Zen Center.  Discover the traditional Korean meditation practice, Yong Maeng Jong Jin (YMJJ), meaning ‘to leap like a tiger while sitting’!  This intensive form of meditation invites you to become fully awake and pay attention, just like a tiger.

YMJJ retreats are held in silence.  Each day consists of Kwan Um Zen practice which includes bowing, chanting, sitting, and walking meditation, with work and rest periods.  Vegetarian meals eaten in traditional temple style. YMJJs include Dharma talks and kong-an interviews with a Kwan Um Zen teacher. Prior meditation experience or attendance at an instruction class is recommended.

This two-day YMJJ retreat includes:

  • Kwan Um Zen sitting, walking, and chanting meditation.

  • Dharma Talks and kong-an teaching Interviews with a Kwan Um Zen teacher for insightful teachings.

  • Rooming accommodations with shared bathrooms.  Most rooms are assigned to one person. A few may be shared.

Dana for our teachers

Dana is the ancient Pali word for “generosity of heart”, or “freely giving”.  It is customary to give dana to the teacher at the end of the retreat. Your generous support truly helps them to continue teaching. There will be an envelope on the altar for you to leave dana for the teacher at the end of the retreat.   Cash and check are appreciated.
