About Dharma School

We are delighted to invite young explorers and their families to embark on a journey of discovery and growth at the Providence Zen Center Children’s Dharma School. Our mission is to provide a nurturing space where children can engage with the teachings of Zen Buddhism through a blend of education, meditation, creativity, play, and togetherness.

This season, we focus on introducing children to the rich traditions of Zen, fostering an atmosphere of joy and curiosity. Our program encourages children to explore mindfulness and compassion through storytelling, art, games, and meditation, providing them with tools to navigate the world with awareness and kindness.

We warmly welcome parents to join their children in the classroom, enriching the experience and helping to create a lively and dynamic atmosphere. By participating together, families can strengthen their connection to the Zen Center community and deepen their understanding of the Dharma.

Each class is centered on a Buddhist theme or teaching, many of which are taken from sources such as the Buddha’s life, the Jataka Tales, the Four Noble Truths, and the Precepts and Paramitas.

Every class is typically comprised of three major learning components:

  1. education about the Buddhist tradition,
  2. exploration of an ethical theme, and
  3. practice of mindfulness and meditation.

These three components are explored through stories, crafts, movement, meditation, activities, and games.

Join us as we create a supportive environment where families feel embraced and inspired by the teachings of Zen. We look forward to sharing this journey with you and your children.
