This day of retreat consists of sitting and walking meditation, with Kong-An Teaching Interviews. We’ll have an informal lunch at noon.
Prior meditation experience or attendance at a meditation instruction class is recommended, however, this retreat is suitable for beginners, as well as experienced students.

Buddha’s Enlightenment Day is Saturday December 8, 2018. This year it takes place at the conclusion of Zen Master Soeng Hyang’s (Bobby Rhodes) annual week-long retreat at Providence Zen Center.
The Kwan Um School of Zen, Americas sponsors the Buddha's Enlightenment Day and Precepts Ceremonies, along with coffee hour with the teachers, and a great lunch.

Kyol Che practice clarifies our direction, resulting in a more harmonious relationship with all aspects of life. The daily schedule, conducted in silence, includes sitting, chanting, walking, and bowing meditations, as well as work practice. Meals are eaten in traditional temple style. Retreat leaders give weekly dharma talks and regular kong-an interviews. Practice in our serene woodland setting with the support of Sangha members from all over the world.

Kyol Che is a traditional Korean Zen retreat. The name means “tight dharma” or “coming together.” In Korea, it is the three-month winter and summer periods when monks and nuns do intensive sitting practice in the mountain temples. Providence Zen Center holds two Kyol Che retreats annually, with students sitting up to three months in the winter and four weeks in the summer.
The Heart Kyol Che is an opportunity for students who cannot sit the traditional Kyol Che, or who can sit only part of it, to participate by doing extra practice at home and practicing together with others as they are able. This will run concurrently with the traditional ...

Providence Zen Center hosts International Chef Miguel De Haro (www.larutaverde.es) in a unique gourmet experience.
Participants will learn to create confidence in their vegetarian cooking skills as Chef Miguel guides them through each aspect of seven recipes, from cutting and prep to finished meals. Small teams work together to prepare dishes for lunch and dinner from the same main ingredients. Chef Miguel will teach how to be a great gourmet by facilitating each group's discovery of vegetable, protein and spice combinations. Team's recipes will be tasted and rated in a friendly competition.

Minimum participation is one week. Entries an exits are Saturday mornings at 8:00am, except initial entry on Monday January 4th and final exit on Friday April 1st.
7-Day YMJJ Retreat with Zen Master Soeng Hyang (Barbara Rhodes) December 6th-12th.
Yong Maeng Jong Jin retreats are held in silence. The schedule each day consists of ten hours of Zen practice (bowing, chanting, sitting and walking), work, rest periods and vegetarian meals eaten in traditional temple style. Includes talks and kong an interviews.
Minimum participation is 24 hours. This retreat will begin on Sunday at 1:30.
Entry days are Sunday, Wednesday and Friday. Exits are after breakfast each morning.

Kido chanting retreats consist primarily of chanting from 9:00am to 3:30pm with a break at noon for an informal lunch. We chant “Kwan Seum Bosal”, the Korean name for the bodhisattva of compassion, while sitting, standing and walking (similar to the special chanting that we do every evening at 6:30pm). These retreats are suitable for beginners as well as experienced students.
